New Forest Walks and Cycles – Available free at the Cottage Lodge
Taster Walk round Brockenhurst: a three mile walk around some of the delightful spots in Brockenhurst taking in the famous 1,000 year old Saxon Church and giving you a chance to sample the local ale at the Foresters. Explore the village for local souvenirs. Stock up on picnic goods at the excellent bakers and food stores. Or sample some of the excellent restaurants. From time to time you’ll see ponies in the streets – and even the occasional cow. And don’t forget our unique local landmark, the Watersplash at the bottom of the main shopping street, Brookley Road
The Ornamental Loop:
a 10 mile walk taking in the charming Oak Inn at Bank for a delicious lunch and the stunning Rhinefield House for afternoon tea. Takes you through deer parks. Through the beautiful American Douglas firs and gives you plenty of time to amble through some beautiful forest. Particularly colourful in springtime. Fields of bluebells and fountains of Rhododendrons.
Lydhurst via Standing Hat:
7 or 14 miles. I love the name Standing Hat so much we have named one of the rooms Standing Hat. It is one of the most delightful spots in the forest. If you are lucky you may see the herd of deer that frequent this wonderful area. The walk is slightly uphill on the way to the pub and mostly down hill on the way back. You can catch the bus from Lyndhurst home so there is the chance to cheat. Lots of tea shops, pubs and restaurants in Lyndhurst for lunch.
Take the train to Lymington and walk then walk through the amazing bird sanctuary. You will often see Keyhaven marshes on Winterwatch or Spring Watch because it is such a good stopping point for migrating birds and there is often a rare species to be found in this 500 acre site. Take a break to visit the Gun Inn pub and then catch a little boat out to Henry V111th Hurst Castle. A wonderful fortification a mile out to see that protected the King’s fleet at Buckler’s Hard from Invaders.
